William Wilberforce (1759 – 1833) was a man of compassion and conviction. It has been said by historian G.M. Trevelyan, that his 20-year battle to abolish the British slave trade was “one of the turning events in the history of the world.” It would be hard to overstate the impact Wilberforce had on his society, and on all societies to come.
The pages of this web site hope to convey the great importance of Wilberforce’s epic story. As Noble Laureate Desmond Tutu said, “Wilberforce showed that each and every one of us can make a difference.”
